Update: Man killed in Soesdyke/Highway accident identified

The man killed after he was struck down by a motorcar on the Kuru Kururu Public Road on the Soesdyke Linden Highway Tuesday night has been identified as 32-year-old Bheesham Nandram of Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.

Police Headquarters in a statement revealed that Nandram was positively identified by his mother, Indira Bangatt.

The News Room had reported that Nandram was struck down by a 42-year-old man of Bourda, Georgetown at about 21:00h Tuesday.

Police stated that the driver was speeding at the time of the accident and claimed that Nandram ran across the road into the path of his car. He was picked up in an unconsciousness state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody where he is assisting with investigations. The driver tested negative for alcohol.
