Cognisant that “the sport fraternity has taken a major hit as a result of the pandemic”, KFC Guyana on Thursday joined hands with the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the Guyana Football Federation ahead of the final day of the Bounce Back Football Classic Football tournament.

The four-team, two-day competition will wrap up on January 1 at the National Stadium, Providence, with an age-old rivalry between Linden and Georgetown.

Restaurant Manager, Wendy Fernandes, presented a sponsorship cheque to co-founder of the K&S Organisation, Kashif Muhammad, in the presence of Minister of Sport Charles Ramson Jr., President of the Guyana Football Federation Wayne Forde and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major.

“Football holds a special place in the hearts of Guyanese and we are proud of the work of, and, to partner with the Guyana Football Federation in yet another great initiative,” the company said in a statement.

“Although the excitement of the crowd support would be missed, we are certain that the fans will be happy to see local stars and teams in action, albeit Virtually. Congratulations to Kashif and Shanghai, the Guyana Football Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport for making this tournament possible.”

The final of the tournament, involving Linden All Stars and the Georgetown All Stars, will kick off from 18:00h on January 1, 2021, at the National Stadium, Providence.

On the opening day on Tuesday at the same venue, Linden All Stars defeated East Coast All Stars 4-2 and Georgetown All Stars got the better of West Side All Stars 3-2.

The matches signalled the commencement of competitive action after nine months of inactivity due to COVID-19. All players were tested for COVID-19 prior to the event.

The final will be streamed live on NCN Channel 11, E-Networks, HJ TV and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport’s Facebook page. The champion team will pocket G$1 million and the championship trophy, while the losing finalist will get $500,000.

KFC Guyana apart, the tournament has received corporate backing from Ground Structures Engineering Consultants, the Trophy Stall, Mohamed’s Enterprise, ExxonMobil and Tiger Rentals.
