Police are investigating the death of Patrick George, 73, a pensioner of Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, who was chopped to death by a Policeman during an argument on Sunday.
Police stated that a police sergeant, was at cleaning in and around his Onderneeming residence when he was approached by George, who reportedly pulled a zinc sheet from a fence separating his residence from that of the one which the Sergeant was cleaning to gain access.
Police claimed that in the process George attacked the Sergeant with a cutlass and a piece of metal.
As a result, the Sergeant, who was using a cutlass, retaliated, and chopped George, who dropped his cutlass and the piece of metal and escaped through the said zinc fence.
At about 10:00h on Monday, police acting on information received, went to the home of George during which they observed him lying on his step motionless with a chop wound to his forehead, his wrist and his chest.
The body was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor, it was further taken to the Charity Mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
The Police Sergeant is currently under close arrest as the probe continues.
