The four-month-old baby girl who suddenly died on Wednesday in Siparuta Village, Region Six, tested negative for COVID-19.
Relatives told the News Room on Saturday that the negative results were returned on Friday. The baby was swabbed for the virus after she experienced shortness of breath and subsequently died.
The baby’s uncle, Dhanraj Shivmangal, had told the News Room that about 11:00h on Wednesday, the baby developed difficulty breathing and apparently died in her sleep at around 11:15.
The child was first rushed to the Siparuta Health and then to the Skeldon Hospital where she was pronouced dead.
Police Headquarters in a statement reported that an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the uncle further highlighted that the baby was born with a health condition, but he could not state what condition exactly.
