Lewis-Sahadeo, from Williamsburg on the Corentyne Coast, was admitted to the Maternity Ward of the New Amsterdam Hospital on Monday last; four days later she gave birth and subsequently underwent emergency surgery.
She was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital following complications at the New Amsterdam Hospital and subsequently died on Friday.
The News Room understands that the young mother, who had three other children, first visited the Port Mourant Hospital after experiencing abdominal pains, but was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital since her blood pressure and blood count were low.
She was admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital and remained there until she was ready to give birth on Friday
Relatives remain in shock and despair. Lewis-Sahadeo was a mother of three children – ages 11, 9 and 6.
Relatives are puzzled as to what may have happened since the mother of three did not suffer from any illness prior to being pregnant; they said she was very active and strong.
