Police find marijuana stashed in car bumper

Just before noon on Monday, police ranks manning a roadblock at Weldaad, West Coast Berbice found a quantity of suspected marijuana hidden in the back bumper of a car.

Police Headquarters in a statement said the incident occurred at 10:48 hrs on March 08, 2021.

Ranks from the Weldaad Police Station were on a roadblock when a motorcar driven by a 42-year-old Correntyne Berbice resident was stopped.

A search was carried out in the motorcar by the police during which nine transparent bulky parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in the back bumper of the motor car.

The driver was told of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. At the police station, the suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to almost 10lbs.

The driver was placed in custody and investigations are ongoing.
