An accident on the Prospect Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Sunday morning resulted in the death of 18-year-old Nazaretlt Palacia, a Venezuelan national.
A police report noted that Palacia was running across the road in the vicinity of Bikers’ Sports Bar when motorcar PTT 3955 struck her down at around 04:00hrs. She was flung into the air before landing on the right-side front window screen and then onto the roadway some distance away.
She died at the scene and was later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was officially pronounced dead and subsequently to the Lyken Funeral parlor.
The car was being driven by 21-year-old Ronaldo Hussain of Diamond, East Bank Demerara, who is in police custody. He told police he was driving at about 50kmph. Police did not find any alcohol in his system.
