80 new COVID-19 cases as Guyana nears 15,000 infection mark

Guyana on Monday recorded 80 new COVID-19 infections from 236 tests, taking the country’s overall total confirmed cases to 14,442.

The majority of new cases were recorded in Region Six with 27 new infections; Region Ten came in with 18 new cases while Region Four recorded 15 new cases.

Region One recorded 13 new cases while Regions Three, Five and Eight recorded four, two and one new case, respectively.  Regions Two, Seven and Nine recorded no new cases.

Thus far, 12,267 persons have recovered from the dreaded disease. The death toll for May now stands at 26.

Guyana’s total number of deaths also hiked to 327 since the pandemic hit these shores in March 2020; the most recent deaths were two men from Region succumbed to the disease on Sunday.

There are 1,731 patients in home isolation, 101 patients are in institutional isolation and 16 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.
