Prison escapee handed over to police by sister, fiancée
The sister and fiancée of prison escapee, Andrew Chaung, turned him over to law enforcement on Wednesday, one day after he broke out of the Lusignan Prison on the East Coast of Demerara.
According to information from the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), Chaung was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters at Eve Leary, Georgetown at 15:00hrs.
He was then handed over to prison authorities.
Chaung escaped from the Lusignan Prison along with Shazam Khalil called “Boi” on June 8.
He is expected to be charged criminally for escaping from lawful custody.
Chaung was admitted to the Lusignan Prison on April 20, 2021, on remand for break and enter and larceny.
The other escapee, Khalil is serving life imprisonment for murder.
Up to press time, officers are still unable to determine how the two escaped the secured facility.
