Two men, who were recently busted with 73 pounds of cannabis in a car along the Lusignan Prison Road, East Coast Demerara, were on Friday remanded to prison.
Taxi drivers, Glen Gray, 45 of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and Kurt Gittens, 38 of Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the joint charge.
It is alleged that on July 21, at Lusignan Prison Road, the men had 33.2 kilograms of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking. Magistrate Azore remanded the duo to prison until August 13.
According to reports, on the day in question, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) intercepted the car which was driven by Gray. Gittens was in the front passenger seat of the said motor car. The vehicle was searched and several bulky parcels of cannabis were found inside.
