Police are investigating a robbery under arms, which occurred on Sunday at about 19:16h at a Chinese supermarket in Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the supermarket.
Police reported that two unidentifiable bandits, one armed with a handgun, robbed a 37-year-old Chinese businesswoman of $30,000 cash and an undisclosed amount of GTT and Digicel phone cards.
Based on investigations so far, the businesswoman, who operates the supermarket, was attending to customers when the suspect who was armed with the handgun walked in, went up to the counter, pointed the gun at her and demanded she handover the cash.
Police said the businesswoman, fearful for her life, ran further into the supermarket.
The suspect then collected the cannister with the cash and phone cards from behind the counter and ran outside.
However, he was confronted by a police constable who was sitting outside the supermarket.
Police said the suspects then made the constable lie on the ground and subsequently escaped on foot.
