A 12-year-old boy is currently nursing a broken leg and other injuries about his body following an accident that is said to have involved a politician who fled the scene.

Injured is Randy Boodram of No.2 Village, East Canje, Berbice. The accident reportedly occurred at approximately 17:00 hrs.

Mother of the injured child, Michelle Ganpat told the News Room that her son was in the company of her 26-year-old nephew and some other children in the vicinity of the neighbour’s bridge at second street, No.2 Village when they noticed a vehicle bearing license plate number PJJ 2920 “swaying and coming”.

Based on what was relayed to Ganpat by the nephew, when her son saw the vehicle swaying in his direction, he moved closer to the neighbour’s bridge with his bicycle but the driver “sway into he and knock he down.”

The driver of the vehicle then drove away without rendering any assistance. The nephew of Ganpat, however, reportedly grabbed his bicycle and rode behind the vehicle which stopped at a house a short distance away. The nephew then confronted the driver who was then identified by him as a Member of Parliament.

The child remains hospitalised.
