A Kara Kara Mackenzie Linden resident was on Monday remanded to prison for the murder of 36-year-old Keno Griffith, who was chopped while trying to save a woman that was being sexually assaulted.

Rochino Maison, 24, of Kara Kara, Mackenzie Linden appeared before City Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and was not required to plea to the charge; he was remanded to prison until October 4, 2021.

In July, Maison was initially charged and remanded to prison for the attempted murder of Griffith, however, while undergoing treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital, Griffith succumbed to his injuries on August 2, hence the murder charge.

On July 26, Griffith was attacked when he tried to intervene during a heated confrontation between Maison and a woman. Maison had allegedly grabbed the woman’s breast and she spat on him; he reportedly became incensed and threw a bucket of water on the woman.

Griffith tried to help the woman, but Maison reportedly grabbed a cutlass and chopped Griffith to the arm and head. According to a post mortem report, Griffith died from cirrhosis, hemorrhage and shock due to a chop wound on his arm.
