Police are investigating a robbery which was committed on a 28-year-old taxi driver at Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown on Sunday.
According to a police report, the taxi driver who works at the University of Guyana was robbed of his Allion silver motorcar PPP 4947 valued $1.8 million by two identifiable men. The bandits also carted off with the driver’s cellphone valued $30,000 and $23,000 in cash.
The police revealed that at about 13:15hrs, the driver was hired by the one of the suspects who requested to be taken to Kaikan Street.
When they reached the destination, the other suspect approached the vehicle and pulled out a handgun from his pants waist and pointed it at the driver, demanding him to exit the vehicle but the driver refused.
As a result he was pushed out of the vehicle by the other suspect and the men escaped with the car.
Investigations are ongoing.
