All prisoners and police officers have been evacuated from the Brickdam Police station in Georgetown that is currently on fire.
This is according to Assistant Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken who is currently on the scene as firefighters work towards controlling the massive blaze.
Hicken also told reporters that some of the records at the station have been retrieved.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
According to reports from passersby and persons on the scene, thick, black smoke was first seen from the upper level of the building. The fire rapidly spread throughout the building.
The Brickdam police station is an old, wooden building.
