Twenty-five-year-old Ricardo Welch of Fort Ordinance, East Canje, Berbice, was sentenced to five years imprisonment and fined $12.5 million after he was caught with 46 pounds of marijuana in March, 2018.

Police Headquarters reported that Welch was placed on bail and later found guilty in absentia on July 31, 2018.

He was arrested in New Amsterdam on Monday at about 13:00hrs. Ranks on mobile patrol in the Princess Elizabeth area said they observed Welch pushing a cycle and when he saw the ranks, he started acting suspicious.

As a result, a search was conducted on him. Police said nothing illegal was found, but Welch was still taken to the Central Police Station.

After he gave his name and address, records at the station found two conviction warrants from Region Five in his name.

According to the police, Welch was arrested after the marijuana was found in his possession on March 28, 2018, at Weldaad Back Street, West Coast Berbice.
