A total of 32 teams have signalled their interest in competing in the highly-anticipated Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Kashif and Shanghai Organisation’s year-end indoor Futsal Championship Cup at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The tournament will form part of what is termed ‘a football bonanza’ to close off the year; the other two competitions- the GFF-Kashif and Shanghai Super 16 Cup and the GFF Women’s Super 16 Cup- will mark the resumption of senior competitive football in Guyana during the Christmas holiday season.

For the Futsal Cup, there will be 16 teams from Georgetown and four each from East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara, West Demerara and Linden.

Frank ‘English’ Parris of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation said the organisers will be meeting with the teams this weekend and a final decision would be made on how many would be vying for top honours.

Parris added that due to logistical reasons and a lack of accommodation, teams from Bartica, Essequibo and Rupununi could not be facilitated this year.

“I think the president (of the GFF) is working on that for the next tournament, so we might be seeing teams from those areas in the next tournament,” Parris highlighted.

Games would be held on December 14th, 16th, 18th, 21st, 23rd, 28th, 30th and January 4th and 8th.

“We would be bringing the excitement once more to the Sports Hall, which would be rocking once again,” Parris said.

All competition participants and fans will be required to show official proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to access all tournament venues.

“Everyone who wants to take part in our year-end festival of football, including players, match officials, staff, coaches, fans and vendors, must be able to show proof of vaccination to access these competitions,” Forde said.

“As such, we kindly urge our entire community to get vaccinated, both to protect our loved ones and to help us safely deliver a memorable return to play for senior men’s and women’s football during this end of the year celebration.”

On Saturday, November 13, players, match officials, coaches, staff and fans will be able to attend Ministry of Health Emergency Operations Centre vaccination sites in Berbice, Linden and West Coast Demerara, as follows:
