Four persons were on Wednesday charged with attempting to bribe a police officer and obtaining money by false pretence.

Vishal ‘Running Man’ Munilall, 34, of Houston, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was placed on $140,000 bail for attempting to bribe a police officer with $700,000 and obtaining money by false pretence.

He was also jointly charged with his brother, 37-year-old Vickram Munilall along with Deodharry Odit, 26, a businessman of Kitty, Georgetown of obtaining money by false pretence from Robin Bostwick of Eccles. Police Headquarters reported that this incident occurred in February 2017 at Grove, EBD.

They appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty. Vickram and Deodharry were also placed on $100,000 bail each.

Meanwhile, Vishal and Deodharry along with a 25-year-old woman, Kuluwattie Munilall of Houston were also charged with attempting to bribe a police officer.

They all pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Latchman and were granted $40,000 bail each.

Both matters were postponed until January 04, 2022.

Police Headquarters had reported that Vishal was wanted in connection with two bench warrants for fraud; he was arrested on November 27 and taken to the Golden Grove Police Station, EBD.

While in custody, he requested a telephone call to his lawyer which was facilitated by the police. The lawyer later visited the lock-ups and shortly after, the 25-year-old woman visited and gave Vishal a package.

He then requested to speak with the investigating officer and then proceeded to hand him the cash in the presence of another policeman to forego the investigation.

The News Room understands that the woman told the police it was Odit who gave her the money.
