A security guard attached to the Amalgamated Security Services was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing over $1 million from Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) and Massy Distribution, New Amsterdam, Berbice locations between December 2 and 3. Police have so far recovered only $485,000.
The News Room understands that the companies contracted the Security Service to transport the cash to commercial banks.
Police Headquarters reported that on December 2, the security guard collected three deposit bags from a manager at DDL and two deposit bags from Distribution Services Limited (DSL), a subsidiary of DDL.
On December 10, the manager was informed by the bank that $200,000 was missing from one of the bags. Additionally, on December 2, the security guard also collected nine deposit bags from a female cashier at Massy Distribution.
On December 13, she received information from the bank that a bag containing $1 million was missing.
The police were informed and the suspect was arrested. Police said a search of the suspect’s house unearthed $485,000.
