Joel Rose, 23, had an altercation with his girlfriend on Saturday and soon after, received several injuries to his face after a 40-year-old mechanic on Saturday intervened and stabbed him with a beer bottle.
According to a police report, Rose, his girlfriend, the girlfriend’s mother and the mechanic were visiting relatives at Parika Salem, East Bank Essequibo.
While there, Rose and his girlfriend had a misunderstanding which led to an argument and altercation between the two. Police said the mechanic intervened and shoved Rose into a concrete wall at around 21:00 hrs.
Afterwards, Rose and the mechanic started arguing. Though Rose left the yard, the mechanic followed him and accosted him in the vicinity of Parika First Koker.
While there, the mechanic picked up a GT beer bottle from the roadside and hit Rose to the face; police said the mechanic then used the remains of the broken bottle and chopped Rose twice on his mouth.
Rose managed to flee the area and was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
The matter was reported to the police at 22:15hrs on Saturday.
