The Guyana Football Federation/Kashif and Shanghai year-end Futsal Championship concluded on Saturday night with the powerful Sparta Boss prevailing over Bent Street in a spirited and competitive final at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
After both teams ended level on goals (4-4) at the end of extra time, Sparta Boss emerged with a 5-3 win on penalties. The success earned Sparta Boss the G$1 million first prize.
Bent Street took the lead in the game through Clive Nobrega, before Ryan Hackett pushed Sparta Boss ahead with a double. Jermine ‘Pankey’ Junior then scored to level proceeding for Bent Street.
In the first half of extra time, Gregory Richardson scored to give Sparta Boss the advantage, but Pernell Shultz netted to draw Bent Street level.
Shultz would then score again to hand Bent Street in the lead in the second half of extra time.
However, a late goal from Sheldon Shepherd brought Sparta Boss level to force the game to penalties.
Hackett was named Most Valuable Player and received a spanking new Hero 150cc motorcycle, compliments of Rose Ramdehol Auto Sales.
In the third place playoff, Gold is Money defeated Leopold Street 3-1.
The final brought an end to the year-end football tournaments organised by the GFF and the K&S Organisation.
Guyana Defence Force won the Men’s Super 16 competition, defeating Western Tigers 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and Police won the Women’s Super 16, beating GT Panthers 4-2 in the final.
