City Magistrate Leron Daly on Thursday remanded a 55-year-old woman to prison for allegedly trafficking cannabis.

Debra Perreira, 55, of Ketley and Drysdale Streets, Charlestown, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge. It is alleged that on January 26, 2022, she had 912 grams (two pounds) of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Her attorney Bernard DaSilva made an application for bail, which was objected to by the court prosecutor. Magistrate Daly remanded Perreira to prison until February 21, 2022.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off, ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) went to the home of Perreira and conducted a search.

During the search two bulky parcels of cannabis were found in her home. She was then taken to CANU Headquarters where the drug was tested and weighed.
