Guyana is scheduled to host the Caribbean Mini and Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championship and the Caribbean Hopes Training and Selection Camp in August 2022.

President of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Godfrey Munroe, recently made this disclosure in an interview with News Room Sport.

Initially, Guyana was slated to host the event in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic derailed such plans.

However, the GTTA will have another shot at the event, now scheduled for August 19 to 26.

At this stage, Munroe said they are working out logistics with the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation, much of which will be centered on the prevailing COVID situation.

The Caribbean Senior Championship is in Cuba from March 2-8 and the Junior event will be staged in the Dominican Republic in April.

The Caribbean Mini and Pre-Cadet Championships form the incubator for girls and boys between ages 11 and 13 years and under in the Caribbean region.

Additionally, the Hopes training camp will be conducted by an International Table Tennis Federation expert, and this usually sees the Caribbean’s best 11 years and under boys and girls and their coaches participating in high-intensity training.

The programme is used to select the best two Caribbean 11 years and under boys and girls to participate in the Latin American World Hopes training and competitions.

Guyana last hosted the eighth edition of the Championship in 2013, where the GTTA fielded and developed a nucleus of 32 players.
