A pump attendant attached to the M. Ali GUYOIL Service Station in New Amsterdam, Region Six is in a critical condition after he was shot to his neck during a brazen robbery on Friday.
Yadram Rooney was shot in his thyroid area; he had been employed at the gas station for the past eight years.
Regional Commander Boodnarine Persaud confirmed to the News Room that three suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery. Police were able to arrest two of the suspects about an hour after the robbery after they reviewed CCTV footage. The third suspect was arrested later on Friday.
The News Room understands that Rooney was leaving the gas station at about 11:00hrs with a bag of cash with the sales from the day before when he was confronted by a lone gunman. The gunman tried to grab the bag containing about $600,000 -$700,000, but Rooney put up a fight during which he was shot.
The suspect then escaped with the cash with another man who was waiting on a motorcycle.
After he was shot, Rooney was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he is admitted.
In September 2020, a similar incident occurred where another pump attendant Shazam Melville was shot in the back during a robbery.
During this incident bandits who were also on a motorcycle made off with approximately $800,000.
