Robbery accused wanted for murder of pawnshop owner
Police have issued a wanted bulletin for Akeem Rajkumar called ‘Barney’ who is wanted in connection with the murder of Carlos Waithe, 24, a pawnshop owner.
Rajkumar, who is no stranger to the court and who is reportedly a newspaper vendor, is from Leopold Street, Georgetown.
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Rajkumar is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 226-6977, 225-8196, 226-9941, 226-1326, 225-3061, 225-3650, 911 or the nearest police station.
Rajkumar was charged and remanded to prison on a series of armed robbery charges and discharging a loaded firearm in 2018.
In March 2020, Rajkumar was again remanded to prison in connection with three armed robberies.
He was also charged in September 2021 for harbouring a suspect, Antonio Maraj in connection with the multi-million-dollar gold heist at Wallison Enterprise.
Waithe was killed in the wee hours of Monday after he was shot while attempting to stop a fight between a group of friends at Leopold Street. He was shot once to the head and died at the scene.
Eyewitnesses recalled that the shooting occurred around 04:30hrs; residents were awakened by “loud screaming. Witnesses said they heard about 10 gunshots before screams erupted.
Waithe’s relatives recalled that he left his Norton Street, Georgetown to attend a party with his friends; he returned home around 03:00hrs and then left again.
