Update: Suspect in Hardina St. murder hospitalised under police guard

The 46-year-old suspect in the Hardina Street, Georgetown murder is currently hospitalised under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Aubrey Baird, 40, a clothes vendor was stabbed to death during a fight with the suspect on Tuesday night.

According to Police Headquarters, the incident occurred at about 21:00hrs in front of Baird’s home.

Baird’s wife, Devon Grandison said he was hardworking and did not have any problems with anyone.

The News Room understands that Baird had just returned home from work and was liming with friends and relatives outside of his house.

His wife recalled that the suspect passed by and at the same time Baird and his friends were laughing; the suspect reportedly got offended and started to verbally abuse Baird.

The two then got into a fight when Baird was stabbed twice with a knife the suspect had.

Police said the suspect was beaten with a piece of wood by Baird.

The suspect attempted to escape from the scene on a bicycle, but was apprehended by public-spirited citizens and subsequently handed over to police.

Meanwhile, Baird was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died while receiving treatment at about 21:40hrs.
