Guyana produced a mixed bag of performances on Day One of the Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championship being staged in Cuba.

The Men’s team had started with a confident 3-1 win over Haiti, but were later swept by the hosts 3-0, as the trio of Christopher Franklin, Shemar Britton and Miguel Wong could not withstand the power and depth in quality of the strong Cubans.

Additionally, the Women lost their first team match to the top seed in group Puerto Rico by an identical margin.

The Puerto Ricans earlier went the full distance (3-2) with Trinidad and Tobago, but overpowered the Guyanese in straight sets.

The female team, which comprises Chelsea Edghill, Natalie Cummings and Priscilla Greaves, will play their final group match against Trinidad and Tobago on Friday from 11:00h, while the Men face Barbados from 13:15h in their final group game.
