The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Guyanese Narayan Ramdhani of The King’s University (TKU) has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Male Badminton Player-of-the-Year.
Narayan came out of the gates with a strong showing in the first interlock of the season held at The King’s University. Narayan defended home court by winning both Mixed Doubles with Abigail Ledda and Singles as well.
In the second interlock of the season, Narayan once again paired with Abigail to win Mixed Doubles. Narayan narrowly missed repeating as Singles champion as he came up short against Smit Patel (NAIT).
This will mark the third consecutive season Narayan will be named to the All-Conference team, and will be Narayan’s first ACAC Male Badminton Player-of-the-Year recognition.
“Narayan’s passion and dedication to the sport has been evident from day one. Narayan was determined to bring King’s a championship this season. Even during an extremely difficult season with COVID restrictions and a great personal lost, Narayan’s focus has never wavered. We are so proud to see how he helps his teammates during practices and how much they love and respect him in return.”
Originally from Georgetown, Guyana, Narayan is in his fourth year with The King’s University studying towards a business degree.
This has been a difficult season for Narayan as he suffered the loss of his father, Gokarn Ramdhani. However, it has also made him even more determined to accomplish his dream to represent his home country of Guyana in the summer Olympics.
This prestigious award will be recognised at the 2022 ACAC Badminton Championship hosted by Olds College in Olds, Alberta.
Meanwhile, Narayan’s sister, Priyanna, who is also on scholarship in Canada, was honoured with the Women’s Badminton All Conference Award. She is currently attached to Olds College. (https://www.acac.ab.ca/)
