There was no shortage of drama on Saturday at the 2022 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic, as action continued in the Round of 16.

The Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal was the venue for the day’s most dramatic contest in which Haiti found a late game-winning goal from Valentina Ornis to secure a 2-1 triumph against Guyana.

Inari Moore scored in the 37th minute to hand Guyana a 1-0 lead that they carried into the second half, but the 2020 CWU20 semifinalists would mount a comeback, beginning with Maudeline Moryl’s equaliser in the 58th minute.

Just when it looked like it would end 1-1 after 90 minutes, Ornis was at the right spot at the right
time in the 88th minute to steer home a deflection in front of the Guyana goal for the 2-1 Haiti victory.

The victory means the Haitians have moved to the quarter-finals, while the Lady Jags’ campaign has ended.

In the Group stage, Guyana, playing out of Group F, won 2-0 against Honduras and suffered 5-0 defeats to Mexico and Panama.
