Two remanded for $6.5M of cocaine found at Guyhoc Park

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday remanded two men to prison for the recent $6.5 million cocaine bust at Guyhoc Park – Tucville area.

Devon Simon, 43, of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Housing Scheme, West Ruimveldt, and Winston Hazel, 35, of Gibson Street, Tucville were arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The men denied that on March 8, 2022, they had 5.814 kilograms of cocaine in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The Chief Magistrate, after considering the prevalence and seriousness of the offence, remanded the duo to prison until March 17, 2022.

According to a release from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), on the day in question, ranks intercepted a vehicle the men were travelling in during an operation.

The vehicle was searched and five parcels of suspected cocaine were found inside of the vehicle.
