A probe by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has unravelled a criminal enterprise involving the theft of drugs and supplies stored at the Ministry of Health bond at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

And after days of investigating, several persons have been arrested and one suspect has since reportedly confessed that the theft of pertinent drugs has been ongoing for over five years.

In addition to the 23-year-old government employee who was caught with illegal guns, ammunition and millions of dollars in cash at the location, the suspect who confessed also implicated a former rank of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) who served in a senior capacity.

The CID is continuing their investigations and none of the three men has been charged as yet.

The main suspect is the 23-year-old storage attendant at the Bond who was nabbed with two pistols, ammunition and over $4.5 million in cash.

On Monday, police responded to a simple larceny report at the bond when they made the discovery inside the storage attendant’s car.

According to the police, while being questioned about the items, the storage attendant reportedly offered to bribe the police with $1.7 million in cash.
