Police issues wanted bulletin for fisherman who killed wife

Hours after 57-year-old Savitri Raj was brutally murdered in her sleep, the Guyana Police Force has issued a wanted bulletin for her husband Vijay Raj.

If seen or anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the said person, please contact the police on, 229-2700, 229-2219, 229-2557, 226-6978, 225-8196, 911 or the nearest police station.

Police Headquarters in a statement said all information will be treated with the strictest confidence.

Savitri was discovered in a bloodied state by her son in the wee hours of Tuesday at their 15th Street Foulis, East Coast Demerara home. The mother of three was reportedly stabbed multiple times by her husband at about 01:00hrs.

The husband escaped after committing the heinous act and has gone into hiding. The couple had been married for 32 years.

The husband broke a window in the house and escaped after the couple’s son heard her groaning in her sleep and thought that she was sick.

But upon checking on his mother, he discovered her lying in blood with a stab wound to the neck.
Meanwhile, relatives told the News Room that three weeks ago, Vijay attacked Savitri with a Guinness bottle and injured her head. The woman made a report at the Enmore Police Station and the matter was taken to the court.

The couple was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.

The man had reportedly told relatives that he will kill Savitri and then kill himself.
