A 34-year-old East Berbice-Corentyne driver is in police custody following the death of a woman who was struck down on the Mon Repos public road, East Coast Demerara on Monday night.
Dead is Radha Panday of Mon Repos, North. Police Commander Khali Pareshram told the News Room that the woman was struck down while crossing from north to south at around 23:40hrs; the car (PAB 5454) was proceeding west at the time.
The woman’s body remained on the roadway until an ambulance arrived; her husband and son were also at the scene and were inconsolable.
Panday was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to the Commander, there are no reports that the driver was speeding; the driver also passed a breathalyser test.
