Shaniya Godette, 19, who was arrested with 1.2 ounces of marijuana on Wednesday, was granted $40,000 bail when she appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Godette, a cook from New Amsterdam, Berbice, was charged with the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert.
The matter was adjourned until June 10, 2022.
Police Headquarters reported that Godette was arrested after ranks conducted a search of incoming passengers from Parika, East Bank Essequibo to the Bartica stelling between 20:00hrs and 20:30hrs on Wednesday.
During the search, Godette was found with a transparent plastic with a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The teenager reportedly told the police that the drugs was for her personal use.
