A 21-year-old cook is currently hospitalised in a critical condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital in Region Six (East Berbice- Corentyne) after she was stabbed by her ex-partner.
The woman’s attacker has been identified as Adrian Anthony Persaud, 26, a Cane Cutter of Bennet Dam, Rosignol who is also in a critical condition at the Fort Wellington Hospital after he attempted to take his own life on Saturday, at about 08:20 hrs on the Rosignol Public Road.
The News Room was informed that the woman and Persaud were living together for nearly two years but because of domestic issues, they separated just about a week ago.
The woman told police that she was a passenger in the front seat of a car on Saturday and that car had stopped to fuel up at the Sheriff Service Station located along the Rosignol public road. Then, she noticed Persaud walking towards her.
He was reportedly armed with a knife and stabbed her several times before escaping.
The badly injured woman was rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital but because of the seriousness of her condition, she was transferred to New Amsterdam Hospital where she was admitted in a critical state.
She sustained stab wounds to her right foot (below the knee ), her right side breast (lower and upper), one to her lower thigh and one to her right arm.
The police, who were subsequently alerted, launched a search for Persaud. When they visited his home, however, he was found lying in his yard, vomiting a ‘greenish substance’.
He was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he remains a patient under guard.
