Bowlers defend 91 as Jamaicans stay unbeaten in T20 Blaze
Jamaica maintained their unbeaten start in the Cricket West Indies CG United Women’s T20 Blaze, pulling off victory over the Windward Islands in another low-scoring affair at the National Stadium, Providence.
Playing under lights on Thursday, the Jamaican bowlers stoutly defended 91 to emerge with a 25-run victory.
In her first T20 Blaze tournament, 18-year-old Jannillea Glasgow was brilliant with the new ball, grabbing 4-21 off 3.3 overs as Jamaica were bowled out within the allotted 20 overs.
Experienced seamer Pearl Etienne was also excellent with 3-0-10-2. For the Jamaicans Rashada Williams (25) and Stafanie Taylor (18) shared in a 26-run partnership then Williams and Chadean Nation (10), shared in a 28-run stand.
The Windwards had a steady fall of wickets and never got the partnerships going. They were eventually dismissed for 66 in 16.4 overs.
Skipper Afy Fletcher top-scored with 20 off 24 balls and Akeira Peters was the only other batter to reach double figures with 11 off 21.
Jodi-Ann Morgan had the best bowling figures of 3-15, while Vanessa Watts had 2-5.
In the other matches on Thursday, defending champions Barbados inflicted a commanding nine-wicket defeat on the Leeward Islands and Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago had to settle for a fair share of the points after a complete washout.
In Round Three on Saturday, Barbados will play Windward Islands from 10:00h; Guyana and Jamaica go head to head from 14:30h; and Trinidad and Tobago and the Leeward Islands face off from 19:00h.
All matches are being played at the National Stadium, Providence.
