All-round Grimmond spurs Guyana to 10-wicket win over Leeward Islands

A brilliant all-round performance from Realeanna Grimmond spurred Guyana to a massive 10-wicket win over Leeward Islands in Round Two action of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Women’s Under-19s Rising Stars T20 Championship in Trinidad on Wednesday.

The victory ensured the Guyanese remain unbeaten, following their commanding nine-wicket success over Barbados in the opening round on Tuesday.

Playing at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Guyana dismissed Leeward Islands for 61 in 18.3 overs and then raced to victory in 7.4 overs.

Grimmond took 2-9, but it was Niveena Ramnauth (3-3) and Cyanna Retemiah (3-14) who really did the damage for Guyana with the ball. Extras topscored with 26, while Jahzara Claxton made 18 and Kimberly Anthony 12.

Grimmond then struck six fours in an unbeaten 33 of 29 balls as Guyana aced the chase without losing a wicket. Naomi Barkoye, who scored an unbeaten 25 in the win on Tuesday, was not out on six.

Grimmond was duly named Player-of-the-Match.
