Bhola Jaipersaud, 42, was remanded to prison on Monday for the brutal murder of 47-year-old Rameshwar Sydney of Bush Lot, Corentyne, Berbice.
Jaipersaud made his appearance before Magistrate Renita Singh at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
Jaipersaud was not required to plea to the charge and was represented by attorney-at-law Charlyn Artiga. He was charged with murder and remanded until August 11, 2022.
On July 8, the quiet community of Bush Lot was rattled by the news that Sydney had been stabbed to death by Jaipersaud, who lived next door.
Sydney was a cash crop farmer and a father of five.
The incident took place just around 13:00 hrs; Sydney had returned from the farm and was having lunch at his home when Jaipersaud showed up and invited Sydney to “go over by him to gaff”.
In a matter of minutes, Syndey ran out in the direction of his house with a knife stuck in his neck.
A security guard who was passing at the time, saw Sydney collapse and alerted relatives who ran to his assistance.
He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
