Suspect arrested hours after fatal stabbing of construction worker

A 23-year-old man who is accused of murdering a 19-year-old construction worker, Chrisgaichan Narine, called ‘Boyo’, was arrested on Thursday afternoon.

Police Headquarters said the suspect was arrested in Westminster, East Bank Demerara, hours after he allegedly stabbed Narine.

Narine of Recht-Door-Zee, WBD, was stabbed with a scissors to his lower abdomen and left shoulder on Wednesday.
Police reported that the incident occurred at about 16:50hrs at Independence Drive in the vicinity of Third Avenue, La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD.

According to the police report, the teen and his 23-year-old uncle Gansham Singh were riding home when they noticed the suspect approaching them from the opposite direction on an electric bike.

The suspect then attacked the young man and the uncle ran away.

After the suspect escaped, the uncle returned and attempted to help the teen, but he collapsed on the road.

The uncle then rode to the Parfaite Harmonie Police Station and reported the matter.

Narine was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment, at about 18:10hrs.
