Miner, 43, charged for possession of unlicensed firearm, ammo
Three days after police arrested Dion Cornelius with one .38 revolver and two live .38 ammunition, he was charged on Wednesday for possession of the illegal items without a licence.
The 43-year-old gold miner of Princes Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Rondell Weever and pleaded not guilty.
He was remanded to prison until August 08, 2022.
In a previous statement, Police Headquarters reported that around 03:20hrs, a Gazetted Officer and several other police officers visited the house and observed Cornelius standing in front.
He, however, attempted to flee the scene when confronted.
The officers chased after him and apprehended him. Once caught, a brown .38 Smith and Wesson revolver along with two live matching rounds of ammunition were found in the waist of his pants.
