Sophia man caught during alleged robbery remanded to prison
Dexter Samsair, a vendor of Sophia, was on Wednesday charged for being in possession of a firearm and ammunition without being the holder of a licence.
The 28-year-old of ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown was arrested by police on July 16, 2022.
He appeared on Wednesday before Magistrate Rondell Weever at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to both charges; he was remanded to prison until August 09, 2022.
Police officers on Saturday lasf apprehended him near the railway embankment at Blygezight Gardens, Georgetown.
Police Headquarters reported that two men, clad in dark-coloured clothing, were involved in a scuffle with two women. It appeared as though the women were being robbed.
As such, an officer immediately discharged a round with the intent to stop the men.
Police said Samsair dropped an object onto the ground while the other man and the two women ran away.
The officers then approached Samsaie and obseeved that the object he dropped was a firearm.
