UPDATE: Driver in Bath accident was overtaking; slammed into turning vehicle
The accident that killed a newlywed man and left his wife critically injured has also seriously injured the driver and a fourth passenger from the same vehicle.
According to information provided by the police, the accident resulted after the person driving the couple decided to overtake another car.
Dead is Beesham Dhoray called Lako of Queens, New York while Viroshni Persaud called Roshni of Canefield, East Canje is seriously injured and admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
The driver of the car has been identified as Novashkar Sahadeo, 26, an overseas-based Guyanese of Susannah Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
He is the cousin of Dhoray while the fourth person was identified as Ramona Romatalli, also of Susannah.
The accident occurred at about 15:30 hrs on the Bath Settlement Public Road, WCB.
It involved hire car HC 7356, driven by 57-year-old William Darenne of Bath Settlement and PTT 7600, driven by Novashkar Sahadeo.
Darenne was proceeding east along the northern side of the public road while Sahadeo was proceeding in the same direction.
Police said Sahadeo attempted to overtake the car which was turning south into a street when his vehicle collided with the right side front bumper of Darenne’s car.

Sahadeo lost control of the vehicle and spun several times before hitting a metal pole on the northern side of the road. The vehicle subsequently came to a halt after smashing into a nearby concrete fence.
Dhoray reportedly died on the spot. The wife, the driver and the fourth relative were all taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where Dhoray was pronounced dead.
Viroshni Persaud (bride) and Sahadeo (driver) were transferred to the NA Hospital where they are receiving treatment. Ramatalli was treated and sent away.
The four were heading back to Berbice after a trip to the Guyana Post Office Corporation in Georgetown to sign the legal marriage documents. Dhoray and Persaud tied the knot in a religious ceremony on Sunday last.
