A Surinamese family has confirmed that the skeletal remains found along the Eversham foreshore, Corentyne, Berbice, are that of their missing relative, Wazir Shaw, a fisherman from Suriname.

The man’s niece Sarika Nesah told the News Room that her mom and other relatives positively identified the remains on Tuesday.

Nesah said, “The skeletal remains are indeed that of our uncle Wazir Shaw.

“He was identified by the steel plates in his foot and also the pants he had on.”

Shaw’s funeral service will be held at 11:00hrs on Wednesday.

Nesah had reached out to the News Room after reading about the discovery of the remains on Sunday.

She stated then that her uncle, who lived in Suriname for most of his life, was missing since August 9.

According to her, Shaw left to go fishing by himself and never returned. The fishing vessel he travelled in was, however, found drifting in Guyana waters; there were fish in the boat that the man appeared to have caught.

When she spoke to the News Room, she mentioned that her uncle had an accident some time ago and had done surgery on his leg. As such, steel was inserted into his leg.
