The body of 28-year-old Hemnarine Chandradeo, called “Ravin”, was Tuesday morning discovered floating in the waters at Mahaica.

His wife, Jameela Cyril, confirmed with the News Room that body has since been identified as her husband. She stated that fishermen from Region 5 who were on lookout, discovered the body floating with it’s head completely covered in the water. The face and head was badly damaged.

According to Cyril, while she is devastated at the loss of her husband, she is now relieved that his body was located so that he can have a proper burial.

He was the sole breadwinner of the home he shared with his wife, two children, ages 2 and 6 and his mother. A post mortem is expected to be done soon.

Last Thursday, Chandradeo was out fishing with his brother and another fisherman out at sea in the vicinity of Rose Hall when he was struck by lightning, resulting in him falling overboard and disappearing.

Chandradeo was pulling up the fishing net at the front of the boat while the other fishermen were at the back of the boat doing the same when the lightning struck. As a result, he fell overboard and while they attempted to locate him, he could not be found. They then headed back to shore.

A search was subsequently launched for the fisherman.
