Four charged for possession of 65lbs of ganja

Four men have been charged and remanded to prison following the seizure of 29, 600 grams (65.2 lbs) of marijuana in Johanna South, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice, on Monday last.

Tameshwar Khemraj called ‘Rambo’, 36, of Nigg Settlement, Corentyne; Anand Jagat called ‘Driver’, 35, of Williamsburg, Corentyne; Shakeer Batson called ‘Baby’, 22, a construction worker of Market Street, Rose Hall Town, and Tejlall Tejpaul called ‘Bamboo’, 46, a construction worker of King Street, Nigg Settlement, made their appearance at the No. 51 Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Alex Moore.

They were charged with Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking.

Batson pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to one year suspended sentence.

Meanwhile, Jagat and Khemraj both pleaded not guilty, whilst Tejpaul pleaded guilty. They were subsequently remanded to prison until Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

Police in an intelligence-led operation busted the men with 65.7 pounds of marijuana in Johanna South, Black Bush Polder.

They were found sitting next to the marijuana under a tent.
