Woman remanded for killing reputed husband
A 30-year-old unemployed woman was on Friday remanded to prison for fatally stabbing her reputed husband during a domestic dispute.
Aquiella Abrams of Onion Field, La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast of Demerara (ECD) appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and was not required to plead to the capital offence.
Particulars of the charge alleged that Abrams on October 10, 2022 at Sideline Dam, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara murdered Michael Wilson.
She was remanded to prison until November 30.
The matter was prosecuted by Corporal David Goodridge.
The News Room had reported that the couple were together for the past two years. Abrams had told investigators that she faced physical and verbal abuse from Wilson.
Police said the couple started arguing on Sunday, October 9, after the woman told Wilson she was ending the relationship and would be returning to her parents’ house.
On Monday morning, while packing her belongings, the couple got into a violent argument during which Wilson armed himself with a knife and stabbed the woman to her left forearm.
Police said the woman then managed to disarm Wilson and stabbed him twice to his abdomen.
Wilson was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted to the Emergency Unit in an unconscious state and subsequently died while receiving treatment.
