Taxi driver nabbed with cocaine, ganja & ecstasy pills at Port Kaituma

Marvin Pillay, a 47-year-old taxi driver of Grove, East Bank Demerara was arrested on Tuesday in Port Kaituma, Region One after a quantity of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy pills were found in his possession.

Police Headquarters reported that an intelligence led operation was conducted at Pillay’s residence in Port Kaituma between 18:50hrs and 20:30hrs.

Upon arrival at the residence, the team of police ranks requested to conduct a search for firearm, ammunition and narcotics.

“During the search, the ranks unearthed a brown cardboard box containing a black plastic bag. Inside the bag were two transparent plastic bags containing a whitish, brick-like substance suspected to be cocaine, a quantity of cash, several zip-lock bags containing a quantity of blue pills, pink pills, and green pills,” police reported.

A further search of the box unearthed a quantity of pinkish-redish pills and transparent zip lock bags containing whitish crystals.

Further searches were done inside the house where the cocaine and marijuana were discovered on a shelf.

Police said Pillay’s national identification card along with other personal documents were found.

Pillay was told of the offence committed, cautioned, and then escorted to the Port Kaituma Police Station where the suspected narcotics were weighed in his presence and amounted to:

Cocaine – 239.6 Grams

139 Metamphetamine Pills – 115.9 Grams

29 ziplock bags containing a creamish, Crystals (Sugar) substance – 63.5 Grams

Cannabis 4.4 Grams

In addition, four cellular phones with three Digicel Sim Cards, a Tin Certificate, Driver’s License, a National Identification card, and a Hire Car license and GY$42,790 in cash were found in a black hand bag.

Pillay was later placed in custody pending charges.
