Guyanese athletes bossed home turf as the Fitness Expo made a grand return to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Sunday.
Organised by the Guyana Fitness Games, the sixth edition of the event was dubbed to be a showdown between Guyana and Suriname but the local contingent swopped the top spots up.
The top four spots in both the men’s and women’s scaled categories went to the Guyanese.
Shanika Estwick, Ongel Hamlet, and Laqueta Major were the top three for the females while Corvin Sealey, Glendon Anthony, and Shaquille Coppin made the podium for the men in that order.
Some of these movements tested in the scaled category included heavy front squats, overhead squats, kettlebell box stepovers, and overhead lunges.
The power duo of Semonica Duke and Tonnica Archer took the title in the RX women’s team event followed by Delice Adonis and Keisha Abrigo while the Suriname duo of Kim Pinas and Dianthy Asmoredjo got third.
In the men’s RX team event, Omissi Williams and Kellon Reid walked away with top honours with Anis Ade Thomas and Mark Tawjoeram, and Randolph Leitch and Timothy McAndrew in second and third respectively.
The event which saw 38 athletes compete, was sponsored by Lucozade, Icool Water, GTT, Guyoil, TechPro, Trophy Stall, Star Party Rental, Liquid Energy, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and Genesis Fitness Gym.
Jordana Ramsay- Gonsalves and Noshavyah King were the principal organisers.
