Body of missing US tourist found
Two days after he went missing during a fishing expedition, the body of American tourist Thomas Carsten Jr was found.
Commander of Regional Police Division #9 Raphael Rose confirmed that the body was being transported to Lethem.
Rose could not confirm the exact location where the body was discovered; he noted, however, that the body should arrive in Lethem at about 19:30hrs on Thursday.
Carsten Jr. went missing on Tuesday, during the fishing expedition in the Rupununi river near Apoteri in Region Nine.
The News Room was reliably informed that 11 persons in five boats participated in the expedition.
Carsten Jr. was in a boat with two other persons when it capsized.
Several police officers were sent to the location early Wednesday to investigate the man’s disappearance. A team of army ranks later travelled to the area on Thursday to assist with the search.
According to information provided to the News Room from a relative of Carsten Jr., he arrived in Guyana on November 17, 2022 and travelled to Apoteri via a small plane. He and a group of Americans travelled there for the fishing expedition.
