Jerimiah Smith, 18, of Pike Street, North Sophia, was arrested by officers of the Customs Anti- Narcotic Unit (CANU) after he was nabbed with 1,000 cartridges of gun ammunition.
According to a CANU release, officers were patrolling along Crabwood Creek and Moleson Creek, Berbice, on Wednesday, when they intercepted a boat that had just docked with a number of occupants.
Upon recognising the CANU team, some of the occupants reportedly fled into the nearby bushes. The officers chased after the group, but only managed to apprehend Smith along with the boat.
A subsequent search of the vessel revealed a large amount of shotgun ammunition.
Smith was arrested and handed over to the Springlands police along with 1,000 12-gauge live cartridges.
Smith was recently arrested by CANU in relation to the discovery of 40 kilogrammes of cannabis discovered in a motor vehicle. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
